This is a study for a larger studio painting which I have been busy finishing. It is done on the rough side of Canson Mi-Teintes paper, on a lovely poppy red colour. You can see the texture and colour of the paper showing through.

The painting of Anstruther is done on a red ground with some of the colour allowed to show through.

This is a detail from a larger painting I have been working on. The inspiration for this painting was a result of visiting with the campervan. We camped on Mull and did a day trip to Iona. What a beautiful place.
Woke to lots of snow today. Went out to the fields behind our house and did a very quick oil sketch.

The sun was hitting the top of the fields and that was what caught my attention. As I was painting in the shadow I had very cold fingers, it was not just the fields that were frozen.
Went down to Balmerino and set up on the shore to do this painting. It was really enjoyable listening to the water lapping close by until I realised my feet were getting wet as the tide came in! I had to move a couple of times until I finished this study.
