This afternoon I made an effort to get my oil paints out and walk up to the fields behind our house to do a study. In the nearby fields tractors we ploughing, I was not the only one working!

Just loved this beach on Barra. However it was one of many beautiful beaches we saw on our trip to the island. We were only away for a few days yet I have had so much inspiration from the visit. I look forward to doing more paintings soon.

Just back from a tour of some of the Hebridean islands. A great trip which has given me lots of inspiration. The recent life drawing class lesson was using charcoal to get an idea of the shapes then coming in with conte to define the drawing. I chose to use this technique to do a landscape study from the ferry ride looking to the Uist hills.

I have started back at my evening life drawing class at Dundee College. We had just one pose for the evening, which meant a detailed study was possible.

September is a favourite month off mine. I particularly love the sunsets you see in this season. I saw the sun setting last night and just had to paint it.

Today the weather was really wet so I used photo reference to do this cheery sunflower.

Before going to work in the studio I did a warm up sketch of furniture in the living room. The sketch was done with a chunky permanent ink pen and pencil for additional shading. The ink doesn’t allow for errors, sometimes that is the fun of using it.

I was catching up with gardening today. I decided to stop and get my pastels out as the bee’s on the lavender were quite captivating. They really are a fast moving subject but I liked the challenge.

I had fun sketching these moving subjects. I saw the parents swim ashore with 8 cygnets following. They starting preening themselves in the sun which allowed me time to draw them quickly.

Lovely sunny morning today. I started the day with breakfast outside. While I was eating I noticed how interesting the light looked shining on the pots on the steps that lead up into the garden. Once I had finished breakfast I started my study.
